The numbers of students with disabilities in postsecondary education are steadily increasing.

Since 1990 there has been a 90% increase in the number of colleges and universities, technical institutions, community colleges and vocational technical centers offering opportunities for persons with disabilities to continue their education (Stodden, 2001; Brinkerhoff, Shaw, & McGuire, 1993; Bursuck & Rose, 1992; Pierangelo & Crane, 1997).
