1. I have read, understand and agree to be bound by the Contest rules and the terms of this Submission Agreement.
2. I understand and agree that, as a condition to being selected as a Contest winner, I will be required to enter into an
Assignment Agreement, assigning all rights to the lyrics I have submitted (hereinafter "my Lyrics") to the University of Washington (the "University.") I have read and agree to be bound by the terms of the Assignment Agreement if my Lyrics are selected as a Contest winner. I further agree that a signed Assignment Agreement must be returned by me within thirty (30) days of the date the University notifies me of the selection of my Lyrics, or an alternate winner may be chosen. I agree that the Contest and the Licensing Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Washington and of the United States and that the venue for any legal action related to my participation in the Contest shall be in King County, Washington.
3. I understand and agree that the University, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person who tampers with the entry process, the operation of the Contest Web site, or otherwise engages in any violation of the Contest rules. The University further reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the Contest if, for any reason, it is not capable of completion as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, "bugs", tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure, or technical failures of any sort.
4. I represent and warrant that my Lyrics are my original work, do not contain any defamatory references and do not infringe on or otherwise violate any third party copyrights.
5. I agree that if my Lyrics are selected for a prize, the University shall have the right to edit my Lyrics in its sole and absolute discretion. I understand and agree that in the event my lyrics are selected and then edited by the University, credit for the song may be stated in substantially the following form: "Based on lyrics composed by [my name]."
6. I understand and agree that the University's use of lyrics containing words, phrases, features or elements similar to or identical with those contained in my lyrics shall not obligate the University to negotiate with me nor entitle me to any compensation if the University determines that it has an independent legal right to use such other lyrics (either because such words, phrases, features and elements were not new or novel, or were not originated by me, or because other persons, including other Contest participants, have submitted or may hereafter submit material containing similar or identical words, phrases, features or elements which the University has the right to use.)
7. I understand and agree that if my Lyrics are selected as a winning entry, the prize money and attribution of authorship will be the total and exclusive compensation I will receive for assigning all rights to my lyrics and for the University's use of my lyrics, including print, performance, and recording.
8. I am at least 18 years of age, and I am a citizen or legal resident of the United States.
9. I agree that my participation in the Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
