In 2008, the University of Washington conducted a lyrics contest for a new "Song of Washington." The winning entry, "Rise up with Pride for Washington," was submitted by Catherine Henderson (pictured at right). Award-winning composer Bill Conti scored the music. Here are three different renditions of the song, which the Glee Club also performs at various UW events.

The Husky band played the song publicly for the first time at the Nov. 8, 2008, Arizona State football game. For submitting the winning lyrics, Catherine Henderson received $1,000 and a lifetime Alumni Association membership. Two runners-up each received $500. Judges were looking for lyrics that captured the spirit and tradition of the UW, were easy to remember and were easy to sing. A total of 382 entries were submitted. Read more about the contest »
