The University of Washington Board of Regents on Monday, April 25, 2011, selected University of Utah President Michael K. Young to be the next president of the UW, effective July 1.

Background on the presidential search

President Mark A. Emmert left the UW on Oct. 1, 2010, to become president of the NCAA. Provost Phyllis Wise was named interim president.

Key Dates

April 27, 2010 – President Mark A. Emmert announced he was leaving to become president of the NCAA, effective no later than Nov. 1, 2010.

May 27, 2010 – The Search Committee was appointed and the UW Board of Regents approved the charge to the committee, a leadership statement and the criteria to be used in evaluating candidates.

Aug. 16, 2010 – R. William Funk and Associates, an executive consulting firm, was hired to coordinate the search.

Sept. 8, 2010 – Search Committee members began a series of community events
