The UW Counseling Center provides a safe environment to help students explore the challenges of life and learning through counseling, outreach, preventive programming, advocacy, and consultation. The Counseling Center strives to create a diverse, inclusive, and multicultural learning community. As both a service and training site, the staff is committed to excellence within the college mental health profession.
We provide personal counseling, career counseling, and other services to currently-enrolled UW students. The Counseling Center also provides consultation to faculty, staff, and parents who have concerns about a student.
Making an appointment
You may schedule an initial appointment by calling the Counseling Center at 206 543-1240 or stopping by 401 Schmitz Hall. A staff member will help you schedule a time to meet with an intake counselor. Please note that scheduling your first intake appointment may take 1-2 weeks and, during peak times of the quarter, it may be longer. The Counseling Center thanks you for your patience.
If you feel you need immediate assistance, the Counseling Center provides urgent care on a walk-in basis. Anytime between 8:00 and 4:00 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9:30 to 4:00 on Tuesdays, you may meet briefly and confidentially with a counselor. These urgent care meetings typically focus on helping you cope with current stressors that are significantly reducing your ability to function, and determining next steps that may be helpful. Because such walk-in consultations are not scheduled, you may experience a wait to be seen, usually not more than an hour.
If you are experiencing a crisis situation after hours and cannot wait until we are open, please call the Crisis Clinic at (206) 461-3222 or toll-free at 1-866-427-4747. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please dial 911.
