The Weber Workhorse Is Retiring: Make Your Move Now

New UW Web servers arrived last September on Homer and Dante, signaling the end of expansion for Weber, the original Uniform Access Web server. Weber will be effectively shut down in September 1999. If you have Web pages on Weber, now is the time to move them.

To ease the migration of Web pages off Weber, C&C is supplying several tools. One moves files en masse from Weber to any of the five new UW Web servers. Another tool lets you submit a forwarding address so that future visitors are redirected to the right location. Although Web pages will not be maintained on Weber after it is officially retired, C&C will be able to redirect requests for your former Web pages on Weber.

C&C strongly recommends that you pick a convenient time and make your move. The sooner you do, the more time you have to check that everything is working for the start of Autumn Quarter 1999 classes.

For detailed information on moving files off Weber and redirecting requests, see "Migrating From Weber" at www.washington.edu/computing/web/publishing/migrate.html
