UW Experts and Internet2
In October 1996, the University of Washington and 33 research universities founded
the Internet2
initiative. The UW, which worked with many of the same institutions and private
sector partners to bring the original Internet to the Northwest, has faculty and
staff who are integrally involved with the University Corporation for Advanced
Internet Development's (UCAID) work on Internet2:

Ron Johnson (vice president for computing and communications and vice
provost): member of network planning and policy advisory council

Steve Corbató (manager of network engineering): chair of routing technical
working group; active in design of Abilene project

Ed Lazowska (professor and chair of computer science & engineering):
member of network research liaison council

Terry Gray (director of networks and distributed computing): member of
quality of service technical working group

Guy Almes (formerly on the faculty of computer science & engineering):
UCAID's chief engineer
