``Whenever you see a search options button, use it. It can help you construct a better search.''
--Anne Zald
``Although WebCrawler doesn't index as exhaustively as some other services do, it almost always finds something useful. If I only get two URLs but they are both good, that's good enough.''
--Lisa Oberg
``It takes a bit of looking at the interface to figure it out, so SavvySearch might be a little overwhelming for someone new to the Web. But it's a fast way to get to a lot of different search engines.''
--Martha Means

In this issue you can take a closer look at how C&C is using a
concept known as ``clustering'' to better manage the demand on the UW
network and to share resources. James DeRoest takes you ``behind the
screens'' to explain the ins and outs of clustering the Uniform Access
computers and Frank Fujimoto explains how some special-purpose clusters
on campus work, with a look at the one for the UW home page.
A cluster is a group of similar computers networked together so that they appear to you, the user, to be one computer.
The Info cluster has similarities to a Uniform Access cluster, but is specifically designed to serve large amounts of information over the Internet.
You can set up the vacation program to reply to anyone who sends you email while you are away.
In the Pine Address Book, use the Comment field for additional information such as a phone number.
Teaching faculty who are selected will be eligible to receive university subsidies of up to $3,500 toward the purchase of an appropriate desktop computer.
