Windows Media URL Reference
Overview
The table and examples below provide a reference for determining the URLs used with UW Technology streaming servers for Windows Media files. Keep in mind that these URLs:
- Should be used for Windows Media files with .asf, .wma, or .wmv filename extensions
- Should be referenced from Windows Media metafiles, not directly from Web pages
- Should begin with "mms" (the protocol used with Windows Media files on the streaming servers)
- Can be opened directly using Windows Media Player (e.g., for testing purposes)
- Do not contain "public_media" (the shortcut to your streaming media directory)
Reference Table
| Your Account Type | Server | Your Base URL |
|---|---|---|
| Student | media.students.washington.edu | mms://media.students.washington.edu/userid/ |
| Faculty | media.faculty.washington.edu | mms://media.faculty.washington.edu/userid/ |
| Staff | media.staff.washington.edu | mms://media.staff.washington.edu/userid/ |
| Course (supplemental) | media.courses.washington.edu | mms://media.courses.washington.edu/userid/ |
| Departmental (supplemental) | media.depts.washington.edu | mms://media.depts.washington.edu/userid/ |
To form a complete URL for a specific Windows Media file in your streaming media directory, substitute userid appropriately and add path and filename information to your base URL as needed.
