An Account for Unix Programming
If you have a UW NetID (your login on Dante if you're a student, or Homer if you are faculty/staff, also your email address), you have access to Uniform Access computers.
If you do not have a UW NetID, go to Get Your UW NetID and follow the directions. By default, when you create a UW NetID you open an email account on Dante (students) or Homer (employees).
You can log in to your account immediately using your UW NetID and password. If you are a new Unix user, get started by reading over Using Unix on Uniform Access Computers.
Rules and Responsibilites
You are asked to read and agree to the rules for responsible computing that delineate the common values that make it possible to share computing and network resources. See Knowing the Rules to learn more about these rules and the consequences of breaking them.
Once you create a UW NetID you are responsible for anything done using your UW NetID. Misuse of your UW NetID could cause you to lose your computer privileges or result in university, state, or federal disciplinary or legal action against you, depending upon the offense --even if the misuse is done by someone else. Never tell your password to anyone!
