Editing Digital Images
One of the delights of digital photography is the ease
with which you can adjust and edit your images. Many cameras
come with copies of image editing software such as
Adobe Photoshop LE or Adobe ImageReady. Other quality products
are available.
Adjusting Levels
Photoshop's Image->Adjust->Levels is a way of
adjusting the distribution of light levels in
an image to the full range of available values.
The Auto Levels feature is a quick and powerful
way to adjust your image to a more theoretical
optimum, but sometimes its effects are more than
desired.
Adjusting Curves
The Image->Adjust->Curves gives you a way to
lighten or darken one part of the brightness
scale relative to others.
In this example, darker portions of the
picture are darkened further and lighter portions
are lightened, while the mid-tones are left
the same.
Sharpening An Image
Sharpening is a process of emphasizing edges
in a picture, creating the illusion of more
crispness or sharpness than the original image had.
By using the Sharpen Edges filter, the
apparent sharpness of the hairs is increased.
