Positioning
Content boxes can be laid out on a page three ways:
- Normal flow
Normal flow involves block formatting of block boxes and inline formatting of inline boxes, as discussed in the visual formatting model section. In addition, boxes can be repositioned relative to their position in the flow. - Floats
Floats are taken out of the normal flow and shifted left or right. Content flows around the floated box. - Absolute positioning
Absolutely positioned boxes are removed from the normal flow completely and assigned to a position within the containing block.
