Problem: You cannot log in to your account using
PC-Pine:
- heck to make sure that your computer is connected to the internet.
- Double-check your login name password. Your login name should be the
same as your UW NetID. If you are not sure what your password is, contact
C&CI at 206-543-5970 ext. 4 for information on obtaining a new password.
Problem: You cannot send/receive messages with
PC-Pine:
- Check to make sure that your computer is connected to the internet.
- Check the following configuration settings:
smtp-server = mailhost.u.washington.edu
inbox-path = {UW_NetID.deskmail.washington.edu}INBOX
(where you replace "UW_NetID" with your own UW NetID or login
name.)
Note that you must be connected to a computer in the UW domain (either
via ethernet or the UW modem pools) in order to use the SMTP (outgoing
mail) server listed above. If you are connecting to an outside ISP, you
will need to contact them for the correct SMTP server.
Problem: Login name is incorrect each time you attempt to log in
and login is never successful.
- You entered your email address incorrectly when you first installed
PC-Pine. The easiest way to fix this is to reinstall the program.
Problem: PC-Pine cannot find deskmail folders.
- Double-check the spelling for your different folders in the Setup
Configuration screen. If you have configured PC-Pine as recommended in
this handout, the Setup Configuration screen should have the following
settings (for user John Smith with UW NetID jsmith):
