Pico 4.2

Available on the computers: Dante and Homer

Pico is a simple, display-oriented text editor. Commands are displayed at the bottom of the screen, and context-sensitive help is provided. As characters are typed they are immediately inserted into the text. Editing commands are entered using control-key combinations. The editor has five basic features: paragraph justification, searching, block cut/paste, a spelling checker, and a file browser. Note that if you use Pine you are already using the pico editor when you compose an email message.

Using the Software
If you are using the Dante or Homer menu system, start by pressing the S (shell: To enter Unix commands) key to get to the "%" system prompt.

To start a pico session, at the system prompt type:

% pico
