Rosetta Stone for Unix OR What do they call that in this world?

An excellent resource for unix sysadmins, detailing how to perform key tasks under a wide variety of unix-style operating systems.

Unix System Administration Handbook, Third Edition
Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Scott Seebass, Trent R. Hein, Editors.
ISBN: 0-13-020601-6

It's a little pricy, but this book is very well organized and full of useful information for system administrators. It covers a number of common unix-alike operating systems, so if you have to maintain more than one flavor of unix, it is an invaluable reference. It also contains good real-world advice. If you only have one book on system administration, this would be a good choice. It has its own companion web site: http://www.admin.com/

Running Linux, 4th Edition
By Matt Welsh, Matthias Kalle Dalheimer, Lar Kaufman and Terry Dawson
ISBN: 0596002726

For those who will be maintaining linux systems exclusively, Running Linux is an excellent how-to book. It includes detailed step-by-step instructions on how to perform most necessary tasks under Linux.

Linux in a Nutshell, 4th Edition
By Ellen Siever, Aaron Weber & Stephen Figgins
ISBN: 0596004826

Not a particularly good general introduction book, but a valuable reference. You wouldn't use a dictionary to learn English, but they're handy to have around when you want to write something. Think of this book as a Linux dictionary.
