Title: How can I sort messages in WebPine?
Question:
I want to change the way messages are sorted in WebPine. How
do I do that?
Answer:
Sorting is a very powerful technique in WebPine that can reveal much
information. For example, if you sort messages in reverse order of
size, all the large messages (usually ones with big attachments) appear
at the top, helping you identify ones to delete in order to save disk
space.
There are two approaches to sorting: a temporary method that persists
for the current session, and one that you can set once and for all.
Temporary Sorting:
------------------
To sort messages for the current session do this:
(a) There are two sets of powerful controls that may or may not be exposed
at the top of your list of messages. If they are not fully exposed
they appear as tiny rectangular icons near the left edge and just
above the message list and look somewhat like this: [> ]. Click on
these icons to expose them. The set of interest here looks like this:
Date From | To Size Subject | Ordered Subject | Thread
(b) If you click on any of the above controls (e.g., "Date" or "Size") it
will use that field to sort messages in this and all other folders
in ascending order. If you click on the same control again it will
reverse the sort order, e.g., if you click on "Size" once, it will
sort all messages in ascending order from smallest to largest; if
you click on it again, it will sort the messages from largest to
smallest. All of your folders will be sorted this way until you
either change the sort or you quit WebPine. When you re-enter
WebPine the normal sort order (either the default order or the order
that you configure) will be in play
Permanent Sorting:
------------------
To permanently change your sort order click on the [Configure] button
in the left hand green area. This opens a window with black tabs across
the top. Click on [Message List] and control your sort operation with
the two lines labeled:
Sort By ? [xxxxxxx]
Start At? [xxxxxxx]
Of course, you can temporarily change this permanent sort order using the
method specified above
