Title: Does SSH Secure FTP cause "Permission Denied" for uploaded Web pages?

Question:
I used SSH Secure FTP to upload some Web pages to my Web directory. When I
open them, it says "Permission Denied." Why an I getting this error?

Answer:
SSH Secure FTP is responsible. It changes the properties of each file you
upload, resulting in permissions that are too restrictive. There are a
couple ways to fix this problem: by reconfiguring your copy of the
application; or by downloading and installing a fixed copy. Then you must
also fix the properties of the files previously uploaded.

Reconfigure your copy of SSH Secure FTP
---------------------------------------

1. start SSH Secure FTP
2. click the Edit menu
3. select Settings...
4. under Global Settings, click File Transfer
5. uncheck Preserve Original File Time
6. click Ok
7. click the File menu
8. select Save Settings

Install a fixed copy of SSH Secure FTP
--------------------------------------

1. Open http://www.washington.edu/computing/software/uwick/contents.html
2. Click "Download the entire Starter Set" and proceed to
   the download Web page
3. Download the "Self-Installing File"
4. Run the Starter Set and install SSH Secure FTP

In either case, after fixing SSH Secure FTP the date and time stamps
assigned to uploaded files will be set to the time the files are uploaded,
not the date and time when they were last edited on your desktop computer.
This is quite common with file transfer applications.

Fix the properties of the files perviously uploaded
---------------------------------------------------

There are a few ways to fix the properties of the files that were
previously uploaded. The easiest way is to just re-upload the files using
your reconfigured or fixed copy of SSH Secure FTP.
