It has come to our attention that several local accounts including this
one have been involved recently with writing, and forwarding a form of
chain letter. The following published notice and policy statement should

         Notice
         ------
Using the University's computers or network to send electronic mail chain
letters or any other form of unsolicited and unwanted correspondence is
not an appropriate use of these facilities.  Complaints will be
investigated and persons engaging in this form of harassment will be
subject to disciplinary action which could include losing their accounts.

         Policies
         --------

         The University of Washington provides computing facilities to UW
         faculty, staff and students for instruction and research.  Use 
         privileges are non-transferable.  Unauthorized use of any 
         computer system may result in academic disciplinary action or 
         civil prosecution.

         University policy forbids account theft, file theft, violations
         of informational privacy, and/or penetration or harm to the
         operating system.

         If complaints are made or we notice inappropriate behavior we
         may suspend the account(s).  The department(s) associated with
         the account(s) will be notified and they will decide upon the
         action to be taken, i.e. if the account should be reactivated.
