Title: I know my password. How do I change it?

Question:
I know my current password. How do I change it?

Answer:
There are several ways to change your password.

1) Use a Web browser to go to:

   https://uwnetid.washington.edu

Enter your UW NetID and current password to access a
Web page that allows you to change your password.

2) From the Dante or Homer login menu:

If you are using Dante or Homer you can change your password by going
to the "Other Choices Menu" (O) and selecting "P - passwd: Password
   Change".

3) From Pine's Main Menu:

You can change your password from within Pine. To do this, at the Pine
Main Menu (m), choose (s) Setup, then (n) Newpassword".

4) From the Unix shell prompt:

You can also change your password at the Unix prompt using the passwd
   command, for example (using Mead):

   mead% passwd
   Changing password for user.
   Old password:
   New Password:
   Retype new password:

Regardless of the method, you are asked to enter your new password twice
to make sure that no mistakes are made in recording your new password.
Once you enter your new password the second time, the 'passwd' utility
will test your password using a screening program which emulates hacker
software. If your password survives the screening program, the password
change will be accepted.

Notes:

When you change your password on any of your C&C UA accounts that password
will then be used for all of your UA accounts with the same login name. It
will also be used for the modem pool.

Internet software: If you configure your Internet software to store your
current login name and password on your computer, you will need to
remember to change that too.

Password screening: Use mixed letters and numbers and mixed case to create
a memorable yet secure password.
