Title: Fixing Microsoft RPC worm infections and reenabling Internet access

Question:
Why is my network connectivity limited to UW sites only?

Answer:
Chances are, your Operating System software is missing a security
update and has been infected with a worm. A worm is like a virus,
but you don't need to do anything to install it on your computer - it
wiggles in from the Internet and then it tries to infect as many other
computers as possible.

To see if this is your problem, check the UW Disabled Ports web page to
see if your computer is currently being blocked:

http://www.washington.edu/networking/doa/

If you find that your computer is blocked, you need to apply the security
update from Microsoft, remove the worm from your computer, and regain
your Internet access. You can do all those things from our deworming
web page at:

http://unblock.cac.washington.edu/

If you have any trouble with this process, feel free to contact Security
Operations via security@cac.washington.edu. Thanks.
