Title: How do I subscribe to a ListProc mailing list at the UW?

Question:
I want to subscribe to a ListProc mailing list here at UW. How do I do that?

Answer:
The general procedure for subscribing to mailing lists is to send an email
message to:

	listproc@u.washington.edu

with no subject heading, and only the following command in the message
body:

	subscribe {listname} {your name}

Where {listname} is replaced by the name of the list you're subscribing
to, and {your name} is your name. As always, do not include the "{" and
"}" symbols.

For example, if Bob Smith were to subscribe to a list called RandomList,
he would send email to listproc@u.washington.edu with the following
command in the message body:

	subscribe RandomList Bob Smith

If the procedure outlined above does not work for a list you're trying to
subscribe to, you can contact the list owner and ask to be subscribed. To
send a message to the list owner, send email to:

	{listname}-request@u.washington.edu

where {listname} is the name of the list you're trying to subscribe to.

Common problems in getting subscribed

1) Misspelling "subscribe" Be sure you've got it right. You are sending
the message to a computer program that doesn't tolerate errors well.

2) An error in the list name. It must match exactly the recorded name.

3) Failing to include "your name. Most lists require that you include your
   name in the subscribe command.

Note that you can get help about many ListProc functions by sending
commands in the body of a message to:

	listproc@u.washington.edu

For example to get help about the subscribe command, send in the body of
your message:

	help subscribe

Other documentation you might find useful will be returned if you send:

	help user.ref
	help listproc
