Title: Do the UW modem pools support V.92 and/or V.44?

Question:
Do the UW modem pools support V.92 and/or V.44? Do the modem pools support
modem on-hold? How do I know if I have a V.92 connect? I don't have call
waiting. Can I still use modem on-hold to make outgoing calls without
disconnecting?

Answer:
Do the UW modem pools support V.92 and/or V.44?

All V.92 modem pools currently support these protocols. For a list of
current UW modem dial-in numbers and protocols supported on each, see:

   http://www.washington.edu/computing/connect/dialins.html

One V.92 feature that is not supported is PCM upstream. Due to limitations
in hardware this is not a feature the access server manufacturer will be
able to implement.

Do the modem pools support modem on-hold?

All V.92 modem pools currently support this feature with a 8
minute time limit. Note that at a minimum you will need the call
waiting premium option on your telephone line to enable your
modem to sense incoming calls. To be able to tell who is calling
you will need the caller-id/call waiting option.

How do I know if I have a V.92 connect?

This is a function of the modem vendors modem on-hold software
implementation. See your documentation for further information.

I don't have call waiting. Can I still use modem on-hold to make
outgoing calls without disconnecting?

While technically possible some modem chipset manufacturers have
chosen not to support this feature. Consult with your modem on-hold
documentation.
