Title: How do I change the real name associated with my C&C Unix account?

Question:
How do I change the name associated with an account, specifically the name
displayed by the finger command and inserted next to my email address when
I send email using Pine on Dante, Homer or Aagaard?

Answer:
The command to change the information associated with your account is
chfn, which is an acronym for "change finger name." You have to run the
chfn command from within the shell environment. (On Dante, Homer and
Aagaard you can get to the shell environment by choosing S, for Shell,
from the login menu.) When you get to the shell prompt, enter chfn as
shown below using Homer as an example:

   homer% chfn

The chfn command will prompt you for the information associated with your
email address and displayed by the finger utility. This information must
contain your last name and at least the first letter of your first name
based on enrollment or employee records.

For more information about the chfn command, refer to the online manual:

   homer% man chfn

Notes:

o Each chfn field is limited to 80 characters in length.

o The chfn command changes the finger information on all of your
C&C Uniform Access accounts with the same login name.

o You will not be able to change the finger name associated
with a supplemental account. To change the name information
associated with a supplemental account please send email to
help@cac.washington.edu or call us at 206-543-5970.
