Email Mailing Lists

Email lists make it easy to share email with a group of people. Messages sent to the list address are forwarded to the email address of each person subscribed to the list.

Subscribe or unsubscribe to an existing list Go to Information for Subscribers
Create a new list. Note: Requesting a new email list is not the same as subscribing to an existing one. Go to Starting a Mailman List
Create a class email list. Faculty can request the creation of class email lists of currently registered students in credit classes. The lists are automatically updated. Go to MyUW, select the Teaching tab, then click on MyUWClass
See mailing list documentation Go to Mailman Lists at the UW

Email Bulletin Boards (Newsgroups)

Newsgroups differ from email lists in that messages are posted on a news server. Anyone interested in reading messages of a particular newsgroup can use a news reader to connect to the server and view the messages. Most email programs and browsers can be configured to view newsgroups.

Setup to view an existing newsgroup. Outlook Express, Pine, PC-Pine and other programs can be used to view newsgroups. Go to Configuring Your News Reader
Create a new newsgroup. Go to Setting Up Newsgroups

Email-to-FAX Service

You can send an electronic mail message to a fax machine. The message can be sent to one or more recipient's fax machine(s) anywhere in the world (as long as it is a free call or can be billed to you). You can use the email-to-fax service to send plain text files, as well as PostScript and image files. Image files (e.g., GIF, JPEG, and TIFF images) must be sent as attachments. PostScript files can be sent as attachments or, in some cases, as the entire message body.

UW Electronic Directory Service

Directory information of UW students and employees is maintained in an online directory service that many email programs can use, making it possible to automatically retrieve a person's email address by simply entering their name in the To: field.
