Please Keep In Mind
- Commercial services are safer and more reliable than unregulated peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing. Unregulated P2P file sharing often transfers viruses and spyware and encourages illegal use of copyrighted files. Besides, you have to sort through lots of junk.
- Use digital media responsibly. If you share copyrighted files (music, movies, pictures, etc.) from your computer without permission, you may be in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The UW honors copyright law.
- Complaints alleging illegal sharing of copyright protected material are taken seriously and action is taken to contact the alleged violator. Copyright violations may result in disciplinary action and permanent bans from access to University computing systems. For more information on the Digital Millenium Copyright Act at the UW, please visit the DMCA Web site.
