Set Up Notes for Those Unable to Use the UW Connectivity Kit to Connect to the UW Network

Almost all users with Microsoft Windows or Macintosh systems can use the UW Internet Connectivity Kit (UWICK) to connect to the UW Network. This software is pre-configured to use appropriate setup values for both dial-in and Ethernet connections to the UW.

The UWICK does not support connections from Unix, Windows 95 or earlier, Windows NT 3.51 or earlier or Mac OS 8.0 or earlier.

If you are running one of these unsupported systems or something similar, UW Technology probably will not be able to support it and you are on your own as far as establishing a connection to the UW network. The following generic information about the connectivity service to the UW network may help you to configure the setup values for the software you are using.

Connection protocols:	PPP (with PAP) preferred, PPP (without PAP), SLIP and CSLIP available
Addressing style:	Dynamic (assigned by communication server) (Macintosh MacTCP setting is "obtain address from server")
IP address:	N/A (assigned dynamically)
Gateway address:	N/A (assigned by server)
Network class:	Class "B"
Subnet mask:	255.255.255.0
Domain servers (DNS):	128.95.120.1 and 128.95.112.1
NNTP news server:	news.u.washington.edu
IMAP/POP email server:	your_uwnetid.deskmail.washington.edu SSL is required to connect to this server
SMTP mailer:	smtp.washington.edu Authentication is optional, see About SMTP for more information.
