Computer Vet Information
The Computer Vet program is a free, help-desk service offered to UW students, faculty and staff to assist with computing problems including operating system updates, anti-virus installation and update, and infected computers blocked from UW network access. Help is available at the Catalyst Computing Commons in Odegaard Undergraduate Library and Mary Gates Hall
Services
The Computer Vet program will provide tools and guidance to clients for cleaning and securing their Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers. For individuals with computers suffering the ill effects of Windows viruses and worms, this service helps to clean their computers and get back online. The service is not designed to answer or fix general hardware and software issues; contact the vendor you purchased the product from, check your product warranty, or contact a private computer repair company instead.
The Computer Vet staff are able to assist users with functional machines. The computer must be able to boot into Windows. If the computer does not boot or is unable to run software in Windows (i.e. the computer crashes when attempting to run software in Windows), please email help@u.washington.edu for troubleshooting assistance.
Many of the tools provided at the Computer Vet locations can be accessed for free, including those who have had their campus network access blocked.
