A variety of devices are in ATL locations provide an effective way for people with visual impairments to magnify and enhance item such as books and papers, pictures, and other objects. Different equipment is available in the three ATL locations, including monochrome and color displays as well as manual and autofocus devices.

Starting Magnifiers

To start most magnifiers, look for a power button somewhere on the unit. It may be marked with a variety of methods -- different size or shape, or a different color. It may take a moment for the display and/or camera to "wake up."

Most magnifiers have adjustments that affect: ZOOM, CONTRAST, and MODE.
  1. ZOOM: The ZOOM switch lets the user focus and/or magnify the object that is being viewed.
  2. CONTRAST: The CONTRAST switch allows the user to increase or decrease the contrast and brightness of the viewed item.
  3. MODE: The MODE switch enables the user to change between different settings or color preferences. Experiment with different modes to determine what works best for you. Many people who are light-sensitive benefit from a reversed or negative mode.
