Blocked network service

Q: I am only able to access UW sites when I am browsing the Web. What's wrong?

Computers on the UW network are being scanned by C&C security engineers to identify machines that have been compromised. When such computers are identified, traffic from non-UW sources is blocked.

You can check whether your computer is currently blocked by going to the UW Disabled Ports page

If your computer is blocked, what does that mean?

If non-UW access to your computer is blocked, there is good evidence that it has been compromised. This means that bad guys probably are in control of your computer and, when it is connected to the Internet, can use it to steal or compromise anything on your computer and to stage further attacks on computers anywhere on the Internet.

Please attend to this matter quickly to help us protect the UW network computing infrastructure and to get full access restored to your computer.

What do you need to do?

  1. First, get help if you need it.
  2. Next, follow the steps described on the Patch Your Operating System, Deworm This Computer, and Get Back Online page to patch your operating system, clean your computer, and re-enable Internet access.
