The Goal: Making UW Web Sites
Accessible To Everyone

The University of Washington seeks to provide access, equal opportunity, and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, activities, education, and employment for individuals with disabilities. As the World Wide Web becomes an essential means by which we carry out our mission of education, research, and service, our goal is to implement information and systems in this new technology such that they work effectively for all.

This important work helps people with disabilities access our electronic resources and puts the UW in a better position to deliver its services as information technologies change and diversify in the future.

We are not alone in setting this goal. Accessibility standards are being set throughout government, education, and business. Their experiences guide our efforts.

This Web site summarizes this important topic. The site will be updated as new technologies develop and new legal requirements evolve. You are encouraged to check the site when you develop new Web pages and periodically to assure that existing pages meet accessibility guidelines.

UW Web developers are encouraged to join AccessibleWeb@U, a group that meets monthly to discuss accessible Web design as a part of routine work process of Web site development and management.

This site is maintained by UW Technology in cooperation with the UW Equal Opportunity Office, the Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology (DO-IT) program, and the National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education (AccessIT).
