We Asked. You Responded.

Electronic U-Commute is Readers' Choice

In the spring issue of the U-Commute News, we asked readers to tell us what they thought of this publication. From the survey, we learned a lot about how you want to receive transportation information.

More than 470 of you gave us feedback through the survey. Ninety percent of you said the newsletter is a useful way to get information about campus-related transportation issues, but two-thirds said you would prefer to receive an electronic version of the newsletter in the future.

This is consistent with a handful of comments we received over the past year from individual readers; some had told us they thought the printed publication was a waste of paper, and others had requested to be removed from our mailing list. One of the main reasons we fielded the survey was to find out how wide-spread this opinion was. We clearly heard that an electronic publication best fits the needs of most of our readers, and so we've decided to launch the U-Commute Newsletter as an electronic publication. For those readers who want a hard copy, we will also make each issue available as a printer-friendly PDF file they can download.

Nearly everyone (98 percent) who responded to the survey said they liked the U-Commute News publication overall. They liked the types of stories, amount of information, and the graphics and readability of the current publication. Three out of four survey respondents said they want us to publish a newsletter at least three times per year.

Transportation Issues You Would Like to Learn More AboutClick for larger image

Clearly, commuting and transportation issues are important to the campus population, but what sort of articles should future newsletters include? What you told us reflects what we've know about how people get to the U: there isn't one transportation mode that fits everyone's needs, and most of you vary the way you travel to campus depending circumstances that change from day to day. And so this newsletter will strive to provide a range of articles that reflects the transportation issues impacting the UW campus and our region. We'll include articles about transit service as well as information about parking, roads, and traffic concerns. Bicycling, walking, and ridesharing are also important to a significant number of readers, so you'll see articles on these topics, too.

" An online newsletter would be great. I would just like an
e- mail reminder with a link to the website when new issues come out."

We are excited about publishing the U-Commute News in electronic format, and hope you'll enjoy reading future issues of the newsletter.
