Bike it, you'll like it!BIKE TO WORK DAY AND ALL THROUGH JUNE!You may think you don't have time to bike to work, but for distances of five miles or less, bicycling may actually take less time than driving. With more than 760 racks and 534 bike lockers on campus, you will likely be able to park your bike closer to your building than you would if you drove your car. And you won't have to pay up to $800 a year for parking! Commuting by bike allows you to skip a trip to the gym, as you'll get your exercise as you travel to and home from work. Bicycling is also perfect if you have an unpredictable schedule. Your bike is always ready to go when you are.
Pledge to bike to work on Friday, May 21st by stopping by one of the 37 Commuter Stations around the Puget Sound between 6am and 9am. Neighborhood bike shops will be on hand to provide free light maintenance on your bicycle. Event T-shirts may be purchased in advance or the day of the event at designated station locations. For station locations, visit www.cascade.org/Education/btw/btwd.cfm Don't stop with just one ride in May, keep riding through June. Last year the UW had 23 teams participate in the June Challenge - the most teams in one workplace or organization in the Puget Sound! And we know from the Ride in the Rain campaign, it won't be difficult to substantially increase the number of teams. Join a team or put together a team. As a Team Captain you'll receive a long-sleeved custom T-shirt and an invitation to the "Captains Bash". The Transportation Office is giving away $100 Commuter Bonus Plus vouchers to the top team that makes the most bike trips in June. Ride at least 12 times and you'll be invited to the Bike Breakfast in July. Pick up a Team Captain packet at a Commuter Station on Bike to Work Day, or online at www.cascade.org/Education/btw/ccsignup.cfm. Back by popular demand, the Transportation Office is sponsoring one of the Friday Rallies designed for those on the go! Stop by on your way home or organize a ride with family and friends to coincide with this fun party happening right on the Burke-Gilman Trail. Check out the great live music, grab some free food, coffee from Starbucks and pick up maps and other commute information. We will have VIP guest speakers, an on-site raffle, free "quick bike checks" and RIDES for big people. Give the bike-a-totter a whirl, and take a ride on the human powered centrifuge! This event is made possible by the generous support of the UW Transportation Office. UW HUBBUB & RALLY
