Vehicle Trips

The University measures vehicle trips to campus and the University District to monitor traffic and the success of the U-PASS program.

The annual Campus Traffic Count shows that the number of vehicles coming to campus during the morning peak period has decreased 12 percent since 1990. Trips leaving campus in the peak evening hours are down 4 percent.

The City of Seattle conducts the University District Cordon Count on the streets surrounding the University campus every two years to estimate both non-University trips and University trips.  The number of University-related trips were estimated for 1990; since 1991, trips have been based on the cordon count.  The total number of University-related trips are down 19 percent in the morning peak period and down 8 percent in the afternoon peak period. A full report of the cordon count is also available online.
