SOV Permit Sales
The number of faculty/staff single-occupancy-vehicle (SOV) parking permits
in circulation in October 1999 declined 20 percent from October 1990.
The number of student parking permits in circulation, most of which are
issued to students living in residence halls, has declined 41 percent from
1990.
Parking Utilization
The 23 percent campuswide reduction of SOV permit sales has also resulted
in the reduction of the number of parking spaces used on campus. Commuter
parking lot utilization was nearly 88 percent prior to the U-PASS and the
number of available parking spaces was 11,525. By October 1999, parking
lot utilization was at 87 percent although the number of parking spaces
was reduced to 11,363, a loss of 162 parking stalls. In 1999 there
were an additional 424 residential parking spaces.
Parking Rates
In addition to the services provided to U-PASS holders, increasing parking
rates has also had an impact on discouraging driving alone. Transportation
Demand Management is a cornerstone of the U-PASS program.
