SOV Permit/Parking Utilization

The number of faculty/staff SOV parking permits outstanding in October 1998 was down 21 percent from October 1990.  However, in the last four years there has been a gradual increase in the number of permits outstanding. This could suggest a plateau phase of the program among faculty and staff.  The number of student parking permits outstanding, most of which are issued to students living in residence halls, has declined 17 percent from 1990.
The 21 percent campus-wide reduction of SOV permit sales has also resulted in the reduction of the number of parking spaces used on campus.  Parking lot utilization was nearly 88 percent prior to the U-PASS and the number of available parking spaces was 12,276.  By October 1998, parking lot utilization was at 84 percent even though there were only 11,346 parking spaces, a loss of 930 parking stalls.
