Funding

The U-PASS annual budget is approximately $8.5 million.  Funding for the U-PASS comes from user fees, parking transfers, parking fines and other University sources. User fees cover 48 percent of program costs.  The University’s contribution to the program, which comes from parking fines and other UW sources, is just over $1 million per year.  The remainder of the revenue is transferred from the University’s parking system; as part of the plan to help fund the U-PASS and discourage driving alone to campus, parking fees have been increased significantly since 1990.

The U-PASS operating budget covers a variety of expenses.  However, at over $7.4 million, the largest single expenditure is transit service contracts.
