Driving Alone and Parking with your U-PASS

Using the U-PASS allows you to be creative in choosing how you commute. You could start a carpool near your family’s daycare site, or check out the closest bus routes. You might also find riding your bicycle a great way to commute and run errands—and skip your workout at the gym!

Or, if you are a faculty or staff member, purchase Individual Commuter Tickets to drive just on the days you need your car. Or better still, leave your car at home and use a Flexcar instead. If you must drive by yourself most days, consider using one of these other options at least once a week.

Parking options

Montlake E1: For most students and for nearby staff and faculty, the best parking option is the Montlake (E1) parking lot. Drivers will have the option of paying $2.78 by debiting their Husky Card Account, or paying $5.00 in quarters. By paying only for the days you need to drive, you can choose other ways to commute when driving is not necessary.

Discounted occasional parking

If you are a faculty or staff member and you need your car and cannot use a commute alternative, purchase discounted Individual Commuter Tickets (ICTs) to park on campus. You may use ICTs an average of twice a week. ICTs allow extra flexibility if you need to drive to campus occasionally. If you are a faculty or staff member working at the main campus and have a U-PASS (but not a daytime parking permit), you can purchase Individual Commuter Tickets at a reduced rate of $3.06 each (full rate is $5.20) at a Commuter Services office.

Tickets can be purchased in even increments in quantities of 6 to 26 per quarter. You will be assigned a lot as close as possible to your destination. If you work on the east side of campus, consider parking in the Montlake Parking lot (E1) for only $2.78 per day when you pay with a Husky Card Account. You pay only for the days you park.

You may also park in E3 or E4 for $2.50 per day.

Quarterly day permits

Faculty, staff, some residence hall students and very few commuter students are eligible to purchase parking permits for campus lots. A day parking permit costs $254.76 (sales and city parking taxes included) per quarter and comes with a complimentary U-PASS for your personal use. Faculty and staff have the additional option of purchasing an annual parking permit through payroll deduction, or by cash or check. Your complimentary U-PASS can be used for taking the bus whenever it is convenient.

Quarterly night permits

Night permits cost $78 per quarter and are available in most campus lots. A U-PASS does not come with a night permit but can be purchased separately.

Swing shift permits

Available to staff and faculty who arrive to work after 2:30 p.m. A limited number of permits are available for $127.38 per quarter and can be purchased for campus lots C12, E12 and W2. A U-PASS does not come with a swing shift permit but can be purchased separately.

Details about parking permits, permits for motorcycles/scooters/ mopeds, and parking regulations are available through the Commuter Services or through parking brochures available at Commuter Centers.

Sales and city parking taxes included in all fees.
