2007 Departmental Parking and Transportation Information Guide

General Public Information

Parking Services is a self-sustaining organization committed to supporting the mission and goals of the University of Washington and Transportation Services. We manage the University's limited parking resources to meet the varied needs of the campus community, and continually strive to provide outstanding service to our customers.

This page provides basic information about Seattle campus parking and specific information about products available to departments for their guests, patients and off-campus employees.

Disability/Wheelchair Parking

Visitors with disabilities should self-identify at any gatehouse for accommodations. For disability access information, see the UW Disability Access Guide: http://www.washington.edu/commuterservices/get_to_uw/disabled. For special event disability parking call Parking Services at 206-616-8710.

Special Events

Planning a special event or hosting a guest? Contact the Parking Services Special Events Office at 206-616-8710 or specevnt@u.washington.edu for assistance.
>> See also: Special Events & Arranged Parking Guide for more information.

Gatehouse Issued Parking Permits

Visitors, guests and event attendees must stop at a gatehouse upon arrival, pay the parking fee and receive parking instructions. Stop at a gatehouse as you leave campus for a prorated refund (based on the length of your visit and payment method. Only cash payments are eligible for a refund). Gatehouse hours are 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 7 a.m.-noon Sat. The evening rate begins at 4 p.m. Gatehouses are closed Mon.- Fri. 9 p.m.-6 a.m. and Sat. noon to Mon. 6 a.m. When closed, parking is allowed in unrestricted locations. Check lot/parking space signs carefully before parking. Parking is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Self-Serve Daily Pay Parking

Available to students, faculty, staff and visitors (exact change only) from machines in the following Montlake lots: E1, E3 (quarters only) and E4. E1 parking also accepts Husky Card Account debit payments (fee is less than paying cash). Meters are also available by the IMA.

After 4 p.m. Mon.-Fri./Sat. 7 a.m. - noon - Self-serve parking is available to faculty, staff, students and visitors (exact change only) in West Campus lots: W2, W4, W6, W12, W14 after 4 p.m. Instructions are in each lot. Parking is valid for the lot where the permit is purchased and for the day of purchase only. Lots W6, W12 and W14 also allow 2 hour parking before 4 p.m. at $3/hr. for a maximum of 2 hours.

Departmental Products

Metro Bus Tickets (booklet/20) - A real bargain. Half the regular price. Non-refundable. These can be used by guests, off-campus employees, job candidates, etc. Bus tickets come with a User Information Sheet. Each ticket is valid for one METRO trip at any hour (or roundtrip if within the transfer use timeframe).

Departmental Commuter Tickets (DCTs) - Sold in increments of 5. DCTs are presented to a Traffic Guide when entering campus. Not valid for football game day parking.
>> See also: Fee schedule.

Day DCTs are valid from 6 a.m.-9 p.m., Mon.-Fri. & Sat. a.m.
Night DCTs are valid after 4 p.m., Mon.-Fri.

DCTs are a preferred option when:

  • departments prefer to pay guest/visitor parking fees, or
  • for parking locations that are outside the gatehouse areas,
  • when the visitor is staying more than 4 hrs. or
  • when a guest will be leaving after the gatehouses are closed

There is also a VIP DCT which allows additional parking options.

Validation Coupons (10 coupons min.) - Remind your guests to pay for their permit with cash in order to qualify for a refund as they leave campus. Your guests will attach the validation coupon to the back of their gatehouse issued parking permit. When leaving campus, they will need to stop at a gatehouse and hand the permit with the coupon on the back to the Traffic Guide who will reimburse their parking fee, but only if the permit was paid in cash. Your department will save money because it will be charged only for the time used rather than for the day. This is the best option for visits under 4 hours in duration and when DCTs cannot be provided in advance. Not valid in the Triangle or Surgery Pavilion garages.

Short Term Permits (Day/Night) - Available from Parking Services for visitors, off-campus employees and conference/workshop attendees. Valid for parking three or more consecutive days but less than a quarter.
>> See also: Fee schedule.
