SINGLE OCCUPANCY VEHICLE (SOV) PARKING PERMIT
The SOV Permit is for individuals who needs to park on campus on a regular basis. This permit is valid for parking every day and for all times of the day and evening. Faculty, staff, commuting and dorm students are eligible to purchase this permit. This permit is available for the calendar or academic quarter or year as needed (with some restrictions).
Employees who purchase the SOV Permit :
- are assigned to a lot based on the priority code of their job classification and space availability at the time of purchase.
- may request a complimentary Motorcycle Permit.
- may request a complimentary U-PASS.
- may request to be placed on a waitlist for a preferred parking lot.
- are responsible for contacting Commuter Services to update their vehicle information record.
- may be eligible to pay for a multiple-area designator if your job involves work assignments for more than one area. Submit a letter from your department head verifying your need to prkissue@u.washington.edu
- may request the we ‘HOLD THAT LOT’ for up to six months while trying out an alternate method of commuting to campus
- may proceed to their overflow lot when their assigned parking lot is full.
- may request an Out-of-Area Permit from any gatehouse on the rare occasion when a meeting or class requires parking in a different lot. (Note: Out-of-Area Permit usage is monitored).
- are eligible for an Alternate Vehicle Permit which is available from any gatehouse for a one day replacement of their permit if it was left in another vehicle that will not be on campus the day the request is made.
- may park in any unrestricted lot after 4 p.m. without stopping at a gatehouse. Check the parking area signs to be sure the area/space is not restricted “At All Times, On All Days” to specific types of permits.
- may park in load zones for the posted time.
- may park during special events such as football or basketball games; however, may be required to park in a different area.
- may park in E5 to attend home baseball games.
- may park in E8 while using the IMA facilities. (Excludes permit holders assigned to E10 through E13, C12 through C15, C21 and N24 lots).
- may park in E1 with your Husky Card when visiting the IMA, etc. (Excludes parking during home Husky games.)
- may park at the University of Washington Club while visiting that facility. (Excludes permit holders assigned to N16, N18, N20-N24).
Students who purchase the SOV permit:
- are assigned to student lots based on space availability.
- are allowed to permit one vehicle only while living in a residence hall.
- are ineligible for a gratis Motorcycle Permit if you are a commuting student.
- will have U-PASS fees automatically waived if purchasing within the first four weeks of the quarter during autumn, winter or spring (or within the first three weeks of the quarter, if purchasing for summer quarter).
- may park during special events such as football or basketball games; however, may be required to park in a different area.
- may proceed to their overflow lot when their assigned parking lot is full link to student overflow lots.

- may park in load zones for the posted time.
X and H lot guidelines: - HFS establishes guidelines for X and H lots.
- X and H lots have out-of-area access to the Central Plaza Garage, N2, N5 and Padelford Garage, E12 and S1 without needing a gatehouse issued-out-of-area permit after 4 p.m. weekdays, after noon Saturday and all day Sunday.
- Some parking areas may not be available during special events especially the Central Plaza Garage (during Meany events), and most campus lots especially east campus lots (during Husky football games).
How to Purchase
- Purchases are made at either Commuter Services office. (students living in campus housing must first apply for parking through HFS).
- Bring in a Customer Information Form if you are purchasing for the first time or if your personal or vehicle information has changed.
- Temporary/hourly employees must also bring a completed Employment Verification Letter.
- Bring in your Husky Card (UW ID card), vehicle make and license plate information.
- Accepted methods of payment include cash/check, Visa/Mastercard, Husky Card Account and pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible employees.
- Permits may be purchased or canceled at any time at Commuter Services.
- Permits/U-PASSes may not be purchased by mail or online at this time.
- Permits/U-PASSes are the property of the university and must be returned to Commuter Services when canceled for any reason. Employees paying by payroll deductions are responsible to cancel their payroll deductions and for all accrued fees for unreturned items until they expire.
- Parking violations must be settled prior to purchasing a permit.
