Accomodating Visitors and Guests (for Departments)

Before visitors arrive on campus, please provide them with basic information such as transportation options for getting to campus, maps and directions, what to do if they are mobility-impaired, and information about parking, if they must drive. Please encourage them to use an alternative to driving alone to get to an event, meeting, interview or other visit to campus.

There's more than one way to get here. Take the bus or share the ride.

The University of Washington encourages you to join our efforts to improve traffic conditions and to protect the environment. There are over 50 bus routes from all over King and Snohomish counties serving the University District: about 30 buses come right to campus. Getting here by bus is easy and less expensive. For more information on taking a bus to the UW, click here.

Directions and Campus Maps

If possible, provide guests with directions to campus entrances. Click here for directions to campus locations from various directions. A printable campus map (.pdf file) is available at the top of each page as well.

If a visitor/guest is driving to campus, please do not direct him/her to a specific parking area. The gatehouse traffic guides have a list of daily events and arranged parking and will direct guests to the appropriate parking area. The Special Events Coordinator recommends to the traffic guides a parking location for each guest. However, if the area becomes full, guests will be directed to the closest available location. The traffic guide at the gatehouse can also assist visitors/guests by providing information, directions and a map of campus as well as collecting or processing appropriate parking fees.

Disability/Mobility Impariment parking

handicapped parking info

Please inform all event attendees that mobility- impaired guests should self-identify at the gatehouse in order to be accommodated. All mobility-impaired guests/visitors have the highest priority and are given the closest possible access to their destination.

Additional Customer Assistance

When the traffic guide cannot provide answers to a guest's question(s), the visitor is given a Customer Assistance Form that includes the Commuter Services e-mail address and selected phone numbers. If a guest has a compliment or a complaint about parking but does not have time to call Commuter Services personally, the department may e-mail the information to parking@u.washington.edu. Please include the time the guest entered campus, a description of the traffic guide on duty and as much other pertinent information as possible.

If a Guest Receives a Parking Citation

If a departmental visitor/guest receives a parking citation, he/she must contact Parking Violations online or by calling 206-543-9008. E-mail is not available for resolving parking citations. Parking Violations is located at 1117 NE Boat Street and is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
