Parking For Persons with Disabilities

Faculty/staff with longer-term disabilities must contact the Disability Services Office at 206-543-6450 to initiate a review for reasonable accommodation. If you already have a state disability placard, present it and the accompanying confirmation letter you received with your placard to the appropriate office of disability services when making your request. You will be issued a short-term disability parking permit at Commuter Services while your request for accommodation is being reviewed.

A faculty/staff person who purchases a daytime quarterly or annual parking permit may receive a complimentary U-PASS for his/her personal use. Parking permits and U-PASSes are the property of the University of Washington and are not transferable.

Students With Disabilities

Students with longer-term disabilities should contact the Disability Resources for Students at 206-543-8924. If you already have a state disability placard, present it and the accompanying confirmation letter you received with your placard to the appropriate office of disability services when making your request. You will be issued a short-term disability parking permit at Commuter Services while your request for accommodation is being reviewed.

For students, the U-PASS fee may be waived; read the waiver of U-PASS fee information in the Student section for details. Parking permits and U-PASSes are the property of the University of Washington and are not transferable.

Temporary Disability Parking

Parking accommodations for faculty, staff or students with temporary disabilities are issued upon request at both Commuter Services offices for limited time periods. At the main office, complimentary parking is provided in the load zones near the entrance while business is being conducted. Parking permits for disabled and wheelchair areas on main campus cost the same as for other areas; For prices check the parking fee section of the current Schedule of Common Transportation Fees. (You may have to scroll down to view a particular price.)

Disability Assistance

Dial-A-Ride, the Disabled Persons' Shuttle, is available to faculty, staff, and students who are permanently or temporarily disabled with mobility limitations. The shuttle operates between UW facilities on campus and in the University District. To determine if you are eligible for this free service, call your respective office of disability services.

An Access Guide for Persons with Disabilities is published annually and shows access routes to campus facilities. The University of Washington Transportation Resource Guide for Persons with Disabilities was developed to help you explore your transportation options. These guides may be obtained by contacting the appropriate office of disability services.

Disability Parking for Visitors

Upon entering campus at any gatehouse, a visitor who is mobility impaired should self-identify in order to be accommodated. Visitors will be assigned parking in a "disabled" area as close to their destination as possible. Parking permits for disabled and wheelchair areas cost the same as for other UW parking areas (see current fee schedule). Gatehouses are staffed weekdays from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon. At the gatehouse ask for disability parking and building access information as needed. Visitors parking is available in the Central Plaza Garage which can be entered from 15th Ave NE at NE 41st St. Download a wayfinding map for this garage.
