Inquiry into Uses of Home-Video Based Self-Documentation

Ive acquired a number of home-made VHS tapes containing
footage of various peoples family memories. I am interested in how
people have used video equipment for the purposes of documentation of
their lives and of their families. Particularly, I am interested in
how people/families are using video as a virtual storage space for
personal memory.  In order to do this I need to digitize them so that
moments of interest can be isolated via an editing system and studied
on their own.
