Cultural Exploration of Musical Worship Practices

I will conduct video-ethnographic research of three Seattle churches
of specific ethnic composition: African-American, Asian-American, and
Caucasian.  I will study extensively the musical techniques, forms,
styles, and performance practices of Sunday worship services.  I will
interview pastors and church musicians as well as congregation members to
learn their values in musical worship, as well as the cultural-historical
origin of these aesthetics.
