UW-in-Paris, documentary
In fall quarter 2004 the Comparative Literature department at the University of Washington inaugurated its first annual 'Study Abroad in Paris' program. 28 students from various parts of the University participated. As a part of the experience of studying abroad, students actively explored the city in which they were living--its museums and galleries, its historical passages and urban design, its transformation from a 19th century 'City of Light' to a 21st century center of tourism and culture. This project is a documentary (supervised by Professor Jennifer Bean; directed by cinema studies' majors Taylor White and David Stone) that recounts the experience of these UW students as they responded to, and learned from, the European culture in which they were immersed.
