Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center
As a liaison between the University of Washington and Seattle’s non-profit community, David works to develop community service-learning opportunities which enable students to explore academic concepts in an experiential, real world setting. David also facilitates community-based leadership courses, manages the Carlson Civic Fellowship and assists with the Community Engaged Leaders program, which provides long-term structured opportunities to students to engage in service.
David came to understand service as partnership, rather than merely a helping role, while interning at a youth development non-profit in North Minneapolis while in college. He continued to explore his commitment to service through participating in Lutheran Volunteer Corps and working at Lifelong AIDS Alliance, which had a significant impact in instilling an anti-oppression perspective in his work. An alum of AmeriCorps, David has now worked at the Carlson Center for three years and relishes the opportunity to connect undergraduates with opportunities to engage in their community. You can find David enjoying coffee at Solstice Café, going for long runs and hikes, and enjoying meals and company with good friends.
