Public service opportunity: Citizenship Tutor
Position title: Citizenship Tutor- Seattle
Name of organization: Neighborhood House
Position description: The Neighborhood House Citizenship/ESL Program targets adult English learners and offers clients assistance with the process of naturalization. Services include group citizenship and ESL instruction, and individual tutoring in preparation for the citizenship test.
Volunteers with this program are present for regular class sessions, and work closely with the lead instructor to ensure that clients are receiving the support needed in order to be successful. You will have opportunities to work directly with clients, tutoring them in all subjects presented on the citizenship exam.
Classes are Thursdays 12 noon-2:00 PM. Volunteers should be available to commit to this class time each week.
Time commitment: 2 hours/week
Skill requirements:
– Interest in working with diverse communities
– Ability to work with people in a patient and kind manner
– Ability to make a consistent weekly commitment each Thursday from 12 noon-2:00 pm
