The City of Seattle is offering a Public Art internship opportunity for college students:

The Office of Arts & Culture is seeking a Public Arts Intern for the Public Art program, which is committed to activating and sustaining Seattle through arts and culture. The Public Art program is responsible for the management and stewardship of the City’s permanently-sited and portable artworks, development and implementation of the annual Municipal Art Plan, and for providing public information about the City’s public art collection and public art issues in general including technical support to community members and City department staff.

This successful candidate will assist the ten member Public Art team and provide assistance for several focused activities of the Public Art program. The intern will gain insight into activities that activate and sustain the  city’s arts and culture fields. he position will provide support for the stewardship of the city’s public art collection, as well as assisting in our agency’s ongoing efforts to train and engage more artists in the field of public art.

Education benefit to student: 

  • Applied experience in arts collection management.
  • Program implementation.
  • Understanding of public service and Seattle 1% for Art Program.
  • Experience working with a public art team.
  • Experience working on artwork installations.
 Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist curatorial team with art exhibition installations, taking inventory and movement of art.
  • Assist project management team with implementation of the Public Art Boot Camp training program to include; Designing and organizing course curriculum materials, prepare PowerPoint presentations, and coordinating overall logistics for the program.
  • General support for public art team – attendance at some staff meetings, general tasks, including providing general support, filing, taking meeting notes, creating unique documents, assisting with artwork selection panels, dedications, community events, art events, artwork tours and other activities.
  • Special Projects as assigned
