Arts Administration Internship at Hugo House

Hugo House is a portal through which writers connect with the larger literary world, a place that celebrates the most inspiring words of writers from all over the globe. Our programs invite people from all backgrounds into this world of words without borders, and encourage writers to examine our most pressing human concerns.

We are currently seeking an Arts Administration Intern. This position will provide an individual the opportunity to work with almost every staff member, developing a well-rounded understanding of how a small arts organization like Richard Hugo House functions.

Internship Duties:


  • Research potential programs and artists
  • Tracking program attendants and evaluating audience surveys


  • Write blog entries for the website
  • Help with social media management and update online presence
  • Distribute marketing collateral to organizations around Seattle


  • Organize archived files
  • Greet patrons and answer the phone at the front desk when needed
  • Prepare venue for literary and theater events
  • Special projects as needed


  • Work with development director and database to track donor information and evaluate fundraising strategies

Time commitment: Four months, 10-15 hrs/week

Skill requirements:

Excellent organizational skills; Experience with social media platforms; Ability to work independently; Proficient in Microsoft Office; Passion for writing and the arts; Customer service experience

Start date: ASAP

End date: December/January
