As part of the Center for Experiential Learning & Diversity, the Carlson Center works with other programs to support undergraduate students as they take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to 21st century issues.
What we do
The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center develops service-learning, community-based participatory research, and leadership opportunities for UW students that sustain reciprocal partnerships, deepen learning and contribute to our greater community.
Why it matters
When students work in a community setting, they are able to put a name and a face to societal problems. Students begin to define their role in the community in relation to these names and faces; they begin to define their role within the context of public service and civic responsibility.
