How to Order Service or Equipment
Introduction
The Emergency Communications System (ECS) provides limited telephone capacity for critical campus departments responsible for responding to University-wide emergencies. The system utilizes alternative network connections to maximize calling capabilities when the public telephone network is congested or disrupted.

ECS Dialing Procedures
- Dial 5-digit extension.
- Dial 9 + 10-digit number.
- Dial 9 + 1 + 800 (or 888) + 7-digit number.
- Dial [7][7].
- Listen for dial tone.
- Dial area code + 7-digit number.
- Listen for progress tone.
- Dial authorization code.
- Dial 9 + 0 + area code + 7-digit number.
- After tone, dial calling card number
- Dial 10-digit number.
ECS Phone Features
To temporarily redirect all calls to an extension or outside number.
- Press [*][7][2].
- Listen for dial tone.
- Dial 5-digit extension, or 9 + 10-digit number
To cancel
- Press [*][7][3].
To park an incoming call at your extension (for retrieval at any extension).
- Press [TAP], or [Recall].
- Press [*][5][3].
- Hang up.
To return to a parked call from any other phone
- Press [*][5][4].
- Listen for dial tone.
- Dial extension number where call is parked.
To answer a call ringing at another extension
- Press [*][5][5] to connect to ringing call.
To transfer a call to another extension or outside number
- Press [TAP], or [Recall].
- Dial number to which call should be transferred.
- Hang up to transfer,
or, if line is busy
Press [TAP] or [Recall] twice to return to caller.
To add another party to your existing call
- Press [TAP] or [Recall].
- Dial number of party you wish to add.
- Press [TAP] or [Recall].
If you hear a beep while talking on the phone, a second call is waiting.
To answer a waiting call, or to alternate between calls
- Press [TAP] or [Recall].
- Press [*][5][2].
To turn off Call Waiting
- Press [TAP] or [Recall].
- Press [*][7][0].
To automatically redial the last number you dialed
- Press [#][9].
To place a call using the Speed Call feature
- Press [#][1].
- Dial speed code (0 through 9).
To store telephone numbers in speed calling code
- Press [*][7][5][1].
- Listen for dial tone.
- Dial speed code (0 through 9).
- Dial number you wish to program.
- Press [#].
If, upon lifting the handset, you hear a series of beeps before the dial tone, you have new messages.
To retrieve messages
- Press [2][1][1].
- When prompted, enter your personal mailbox number.
- Follow menu prompts.
