General Range:
Recently recognized as a species occurring only in Washington.
Range in Washington: Southeast Washington south of Yakima River and west and north of Columbia River. Current recognition of this species does not include populations north of the Yakima River, which are considered to be Spermophilis mollis.
Habitat: Grassland and sagebrush.
Diet: Herbivore.
Habitats: Hibernates.
Identification: Gray; no spots; short tail that is reddish below. Total length: 17-27 cm; tail: 3-7 cm; mass: 125-325 g.
